Macaw continues expansion in German market with acquisition of digital agency netzkern

Düsseldorf, Germany / Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 3 March 2021 – Avedon’s most recent investment Macaw, today announced it acquired the German digital agency netzkern, executing on its ambition to increase market share in the DACH region. This acquisition makes the combined company the largest Sitecore implementation partner in the German market.

Earlier this month, Avedon invested in Macaw to support the growth strategy to become a leading European partner for Microsoft and Sitecore technologies, through organic growth as well as a selective buy-and-build strategy, with a priority in the DACH region. Netzkern is a successful first step in this strategy. In addition going forward, Macaw will expand its Microsoft business with other German specialists.

Avedon supported Macaw management with a cross-border collaboration from its teams in Düsseldorf and Amsterdam. The netzkern opportunity was a result of Avedon’s deep industry knowledge and network in the IT-services sector in the Benelux and DACH region.

Since its foundation 20 years ago, netzkern has grown the team to a 100 people working from its offices in Wuppertal and Hamburg. Netzkern was one of the first Sitecore partners in the DACH region where it has one of the largest Sitecore teams. Netzkern is a Sitecore Platinum Implementation Partner and Microsoft Gold Partner. Customers such as Düsseldorf Airport and RWE appreciate netzkern’s knowledge, dedication, creativity and ability to find the best solution to help them succeed, especially in challenging situations.

The two CEOs, Thomas Golatta and Daniel Schulten, will further shape the growth of the German Microsoft and Sitecore business alongside the team of Macaw Germany.

Match in terms of culture and ambition
About the merger, Golatta says: “The past twenty years have been an amazing journey. And we are incredibly proud of the team that has built netzkern to what it is today. In recent years, we’ve seen the agency world change dramatically and in order to serve our clients even better, we’re delighted to join forces with Macaw. In Macaw we have found a match in terms of company culture, passion and ambition.”

William van der Pijl, CEO of Macaw, adds: “Right from the outset when we were in discussion with Thomas and Daniel, the shared passion for making our customers successful through innovation and digitization was apparent. Also both companies enable their people to become the best version of themselves through constant challenge and self-development by creating an environment in which trust, authenticity, and collaboration are the key.”
